3 types of photos to take after a car accident

Almost immediately after a motor vehicle accident, the scene becomes chaotic with emergency personnel and others coming to assist. Tow trucks take damaged vehicles off of the road and crews remove debris off the roadways. Capturing photographs of your surroundings after the car accident helps you preserve any evidence.

Certain types of photos can help provide an excellent perspective of the accident to use in future insurance or personal injury claims.

1. Vehicle damage

Make sure to take detailed, close-up pictures of your own vehicle’s damage from the accident. Do not forget to also document any damage on the other vehicles in the accident. Also, take photos of any internal damage such as your vehicle’s deployed airbags. A variety of pictures helps show the severity of the damage and how the accident happened.

2. Accident scene

Pictures of the entire accident scene help support the information from your statement, witness accounts and police reports. To help give you a more complete story to support your case, take videos and photos of traffic signs, road conditions, skid marks, debris, traffic patterns, weather conditions, surrounding businesses and anything else relating to the accident.

3. Injury progression

If you sustain any injuries from the accident, be sure and take pictures of the affected parts of your body, as soon as you are able to. Document the progression of your injuries from plenty of angles and distances. Make not of any scars, stitches, casts or any permanently crippled body part.

By taking more pictures than you think you need, you will have more evidence to help build a better case for yourself.
