The dangers of truck accidents

In recent weeks, this blog has discussed truck accidents and the dangers they present to Pennsylvania residents. Truck accidents can result in far more catastrophic injuries and damages to victims than a car accident involving passenger vehicles. A fully loaded semi truck can weight 25 times what the average passenger vehicle weighs, posing dangers for drivers and others sharing the roadway with a semi truck.

It is essential that truck drivers are properly trained, properly equipped and well-rested. In addition, it is essential the truck companies adhere to laws regulating service hours and other aspects of the trucking profession. When truck companies or truck drivers fail to take these steps, they may be considered negligent if a truck accident is caused. Depending on the relationship between a truck driver and trucking company, either one of them, or both of them, may be liable to compensate victims for their damages.

Truck accidents resulted in nearly 5,000 fatalities and 106,000 injuries in 2006. The injuries and harm that truck accidents can cause to victims can include medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering damages. Personal injury legal options are available to injured victims to help them recover compensation for their physical, financial and emotional damages from the negligent parties responsible for the harm they have suffered.

Victims should not have to fear that they have to face the extensive damages associated with truck accidents alone. Legal options are available to help protect them which can include a claim for damages when they have been harmed by a careless truck driver or negligent trucking company.
