Texting while driving still a cause of many accidents

Driving a motorized vehicle, whether it is a car, a truck or a motorcycle, requires attention to detail. Not only does a driver have to know and take note of what they are doing at all times while behind the wheel, but said driver also needs to be aware of what other drivers are doing on the roadways. So, driving is twofold. You have be conscientious and alert as to what your actions on the streets as well as to the actions of other drivers.

Many states have laws on the books making texting and driving illegal. For instance, in Pennsylvania, if drivers are caught texting while driving then the police can give them a $50 fine. Texting includes but is not limited to sending, writing, or reading a text while behind the wheel of a car. Any of these activates will most assuredly get you in trouble with the authorities when caught.

Unfortunately, the fact that there are laws against this behavior does not stop many drivers from texting while driving. Although laws like the one in Pennsylvania and many other states have been on the books for several years now, this kind of distracted driving continues to be the cause of a significant number of accidents.

When Pennsylvania residents are injured in a car accident caused by another driver’s negligence, they may seek compensation for medical expenses and other damages through a personal injury lawsuit. The fact that the other driver was distracted by a smartphone or other device when he or she should have been paying attention to the road can be very powerful evidence to show negligence.

Attorneys with experience in texting and driving-related accidents can help the injured and their families to understand how the law may apply to the circumstances of their case.
