Truck driver under the influence kills one, injures another

Drunk driving accidents can be quite severe, resulting in serious bodily injury or death. The ironic thing about drunk driving accidents is that the drunk driver often walks away from the accident physically unscathed, while the victims in the accident face dire consequences. Unfortunately, drunk driving accidents are deadly more times than not, and there is no real way to defend against being involved in this type of accident.

In a recent accident, a man was killed and his wife was seriously injured in a drunk driving accident. The couple was sitting in their car at a light when a truck slammed into the back of them. This caused their car to strike another vehicle that was on the roadway. After the police investigation, it was discovered that the driver of the truck was driving while under the influence, which played a part in the accident. As such, the truck driver was charged with failing to observe a traffic light, DUI and death resulting from an automobile.

In cases where a drunk driving accident causes the death of another individual, criminal charges are almost inevitable because in most states DUIs are statutorily mandated. This means that under state laws, DUI incidents are addressed in the legal system. Even with that being the case, a victim’s family can also seek a wrongful death claim in civil court to seek recovery of damages and other compensation.

Having to experience a drunk driving accident can be horrific. But, taking that appropriate legal steps in the aftermath of the accident can go a long way toward bringing piece of mind in a very bad situation.
