I-81 alleged drunk driver accident seriously injures two men

Victims of drunk drivers are protected by the legal system. These victims may have a right to recovery when injured.

Two men were recently hit by a drunk driver on I-81 in a nearby Pennsylvania community. The alleged drunk driver of the tractor trailer struck the two men in two separate disabled vehicles stopped alongside the road on the shoulder. According to police, the truck driver was driving erratically prior to slamming into both vehicles and the semi overturning. The driver then fled the scene of the accident.

The driver was apprehended by police and has since been charged with two counts of aggravated assault while driving under the influence, other charges related to the accident for leaving the scene of a serious crash and additional traffic offenses. One of the victims sustained life-threatening severe injuries, and the other victim also sustained serious injuries and may lose a leg, as a result of the crash. Both men were flown from the scene of the auto accident to the hospital.

Victims injured in a car accident can face severe injuries. Victims may also face significant damages, a costly recovery or permanent disability. A personal injury claim for damages against a drunk driver may allow an injured victim to recover compensation for damages, including medical expenses, future medical care and costs, lost wages, lost-earning capacity and pain and suffering damages. Liability for an accident caused by a drunk driver is based on the legal concept of negligence. Typically, citations or criminal charges in relation to an accident are considered evidence of negligence.

Victims may face physical, financial and emotional challenges following a serious drunk driving accident. A trained personal injury attorney can help victims of a drunk driver receive damages for the harm the victim has suffered as a result of the driver’s negligence.
