Pennsylvania driver killed in head-on collision

Driving is a one of the most dangerous things that people do day in and day out. The responsibilities that go along with driving are quite serious. All drivers have a legal duty not only to pay attention to what they are doing, but also to pay attention to what all the other drivers on the road are doing. A breach of this duty to pay attention can give rise to a claim for negligence.

In Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, a recent car crash resulted in the death of one of the people involved. The accident happened around 11:00 p.m. on Ridge Pike. One of the cars was traveling westbound when the driver lost control and slammed head-on into another vehicle. The driver of the car that lost control died later at the hospital. The driver of the other car was seriously injured and taken to the hospital as well.

In dealing with car accidents, the courts determine liability based on the concept of negligence. Negligence simply means the failure to act with the level of care a reasonable person would exercise under the circumstances. Examples of negligent driving are failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to yield the right of way, driving while intoxicated and speeding. When negligence results in an accident that causes injury, the victim has the right to sue the negligent driver for damages in a civil lawsuit.

There is no way for a person to predict whether they or a loved one is going to be involved in an automobile accident. If one occurs, there are legal measures that one can take to protect one’s rights. An experienced personal injury attorney can advise the victim or the family of these rights.
